Articles: Press ReleasesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DRS Technologies Introduces new Wideband Data Recorder Capabilities PARSIPPANY, N.J., December 2008 – DRS Technologies announced today the launch of a new solid state recorder, the Scout. The high-performance wideband recorder, used for tactical airborne, ground mobile and man-portable SIGINT wideband recording applications, offers major size, weight and power (SWaP) advantages to its end-users. At 27 cubic inches (1.5”x3”x6”), weighing 30 ounces and operating on less than 10 watts, Scout capitalizes on technological advances in solid state memory and low-power FPGA Digital Signal Processing (DSP) capabilities. It is designed to capture up to a 40 MHz wide Pre-D spectrum for 30 minutes. A removable solid state storage pack supports quick and easy installation and replacement of storage media. The new product was designed and developed at DRS’ Columbia, Maryland facility. “The Scout recorder is the first of its kind to offer the array of recording solutions packaged in such a compact device,” said Larry Butera, vice president and general manager of DRS Signal Solutions, Inc. “Its affordability and SWaP advantages will make it an accessible technology for missions that have not previously incorporated SIGINT recording capability. The Scout solid state data recorder has a 70 MHz IF / 40MHz bandwidth analog interface for connection to a wide range of industry tuner/receivers. It can be customized to support other I/O interfaces including different analog IF center frequencies and selectable bandwidths. Command and control is implemented through a USB interface. Recorded data may be accessed through the USB interface or by connecting the DRS removable solid state storage pack to a workstation or tape offload unit. DRS Technologies’ Signal Recording Technologies line of business is a leader in developing, marketing, and manufacturing of products that redefine and extend the limits of integrated recording, processing and special storage systems for the SIGINT, instrumentation, information assurance and niche telemetry and telecommunications markets. DRS Technologies, headquartered in Parsippany, NJ, is a leading supplier of integrated products, services and support to military forces, intelligence agencies and prime contractors worldwide. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Finmeccanica S.p.A. which employs more than 70,000 people worldwide.
