Tuners - Miniatures

SI-9144 DUAL-CHANNEL PHASE-COHERENT VHF/UHF TUNER

The SI-9144 is a subminiature, microprocessor-controlled, dual-channel, wideband tuner capable of tuning over the VHF/UHF spectrum from 20 to 3000 MHz in 100 kHz steps. The SI-9144’s small size and low power consumption make the unit ideal for portable wideband tuning applications where power reduction and weight are crucial considerations. The SI-9144 may be remotely configured to distribute its local oscillator (LO) signals to operate either in the phase-coherent (master/slave) local oscillator (LO) mode or in an independent LO mode.

The unit is controlled remotely over a single- or multi-drop RS-232C or a low-speed universal serial bus (USB 1.1) interface. In addition to fixed frequency tuning, the SI-9144 provides a sweep scan (coverage from a start to a stop frequency in defined steps) and a step scan (preprogrammed discrete frequencies). A lockout function is available during sweep scans to block reception of undesired portions of the RF spectrum. The SI-9144 contains non-volatile memory for storage of up to 200 sweep/step setups and 200 lockout bands.

In addition to manual gain control, the unit provides an automatic gain control (AGC) algorithm that can be used to maintain the 70 MHz IF output of each channel at a user-selectable level. The SI-9144’s two 70 MHz IF outputs may be routed to a SI-9475 Miniature IF Digitizer to create an RF-to-IF real-time or snapshot data collection system.

SI-9144 Highlights

  • 20 to 3000 MHz tuning range with 100 kHz tuning resolution
  • Operates as a dual-channel phase-coherent tuner or as two independent tuners
  • Two 70 MHz IF outputs with either a 6 or 25 MHz user-selectable IF bandwidth
  • Manual or automatic gain control (AGC)
  • RS-232C (single- or multi-drop) or USB remote control

SI-9291 6-GHz FREQUENCY EXTENDER

The SI-9291 Frequency Extender (FE) is designed specifically to extend the operating capabilities of four DRS receivers — the SI-8614 Nanoceptor™ and the WJ-860X Family of Miniceptor™ Receivers — but it has practical applications with any receiver that is capable of tuning up to 2.7 GHz. The FE accepts inputs of 20 MHz to 6 GHz. It converts signals greater than 2700 MHz to an IF output range of 1.2 to 2.1 GHz, and outputs 20-to-2700 MHz input signals without processing. The SI-9291 output directly feeds the RF input of a receiver with a suitable tuning range. It can be purchased as a stand-alone unit; as the heart of a field installation kit providing all hardware and cabling required to integrate the FE with a receiver; or integrated into an SI -8906/SYS Receiving System with a WJ-8607A, WJ-8607B, or WJ-8607C configured with the 860XA/3GFE option. Other candidates for operations with the SI-9291 are the WJ-8607 or WJ-8609A receivers when configured with the 860X/3GFE option.

The SI-9291 operates in distinct input bands. Band 1 provides a 900 MHz wide output centered at 1650 MHz, while Bands 2, 3, and 4 provide an 800 MHz wide output centered at 1600 MHz. FE gain is controlled by selecting 0 dB, 6 dB, or 12 dB RF attenuator paths.

The unit operates on a 12-Vdc input power and consumes less than 8 Watts. Power conservation is made available by the SI-9291’s sleep capability. The FE responds to a SLEEP command from the host receiver by turning off all supply voltages except for the one that control the sleep logic. Subsequent activity on the control port awakens the FE for normal operation.

SI-9291 Highlights

Tuners - VME

SI-7002 DUAL-CHANNEL VME UPCONVERTER

The SI-7002 is a microprocessor-controlled dual-channel wideband VME VHF/UHF upconverter capable of providing two independent signals each providing a wideband VHF/UHF spectrum tunable from 20 to 3000 MHz with degraded performance down to 2 MHz. It contains two upconverter modules that may be remotely configured to accept one of two analog IF inputs — one centered at 70 MHz or the other centered at 16.25 MHz.

The SI-7002’s output signal characteristics of each channel are dependent on the bandwidth option installed and the input selection. SI-7002 upconverters that include the 25 MHz bandwidth option provide unit gain performance of -5 dB ±2 dB when using the 16.25 MHz IF inputs. With the 30 MHz bandwidth option installed, the SI-7002 provides unit gain performance of 3 dB ±2 dB using the 70 MHz IF inputs, while allowing degraded performance using the 16.25 MHz IF inputs. The spectrum of the output is inverted with respect to the 70 MHz IF input or is upright with respect to the 16.25 MHz IF input.

The SI-7002 is packaged in a single-slot 6U VME card with all functions and controls accessible remotely via the VME bus interface. Placing the unit directly on a VME standard instrumentation and computing bus simplifies and enhances system integration.

The unit features low phase noise, fast tuning, high dynamic range and a 100‑kHz tuning resolution. Its tuning speed is typically 10 milliseconds. Its gain is adjustable over a 40-dB range (in 1-dB steps from 0 to 40 dB).

SI-7002 Highlights

  • Two wideband upconverters in single-slot 6U VME card
  • Each channel is independently tunable
  • Output Frequency 20 to 3000 MHz (tunable down to 2 MHz)
  • 100-kHz tuning resolution
  • Inputs: 16.25 MHz IF and 70 MHz IF
  • Output Bandwidth Options: 30 MHz or 25 MHz
